About
The UiTM-klpac Malaysian Composers Concert Series program is an annual program organized in collaboration between the Conservatory of Music, College of Creative Studies, MARA University of Technology (UiTM) and The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center (klpac). The format of this program is the concept of a performance or music concert with a different theme every year. Located on Pentas 2, klpac, this 15-year-old concert has successfully featured new compositions created by students and staff of the UiTM Conservatory of Music in particular and several local composers outside of UiTM as well as overseas such as Australia, Indonesia, Germany, America Company, Norway, Cambodia, UK and so on.
The main purpose of organizing this series of programs is to highlight and present the diversity of music genres to the community such as art music, contemporary traditional music, contemporary classical music and electronic music that is lacking a platform for performance in our country. Until today, this program has featured various forms of musical performances with different instrumentation such as orchestra, choir, string quartet, piano trio, percussion ensemble, traditional ensemble and others. The musicians are made up of a combination of students and staff of the Conservatory of Music, professional musicians outside UiTM locally and abroad.
4 concerts this year are:
1. SPECTRA 2024
We explore the theme of Synesthesia, where electroacoustic music and live oil painting converge to create a unique journey for your senses. Featuring works from talented Southeast Asian sound artists, as well as a special piece from the UK, each musical motif is paired with a specific hue, allowing you to experience soundscapes visually. As you listen, feel free to share the colors and emotions that arise for you; your contributions will inspire the live painter, who will incorporate your perceptions onto the canvas in real time. Observe how thick, textured strokes represent deep, resonant bass, while lighter, flowing lines illustrate ethereal high notes. The painter will create a dynamic visual narrative that evolves alongside the music, capturing the rhythm and emotion of each moment. This collaboration celebrates the synergy of sound and sight. After the concert, the completed painting will be on display and up for sale, serving as a lasting reminder of this extraordinary experience. Embrace the interplay of your senses as we delve into the captivating world of Synesthesia, featuring innovative voices from Southeast Asia and the UK. Enjoy the show!
