[11 FILM PIECES]

Across Borders by Teh Ais Ikat Tepi

Synopsis:

Across Borders is a very Malaysian one-act play involving friends from the East and West of Malaysia working together virtually for an assignment. We were inspired by a series of real-life events and used our personal experiences to develop the storyline. The main idea of this play is to highlight the Malaysian reality, which is the never-ending ‘feud’ between the peninsular and East Malaysia. We incorporated the essence of humour and various local elements such as stereotypes, race, ethnic differences, food, cultures, geographical and historical facts, which overall brought the entire play to life.

Language: English and Malay with Eng subtitles

Cast: Amin Rafiq Ramlee, Ashraf Nazri, Fadhilah Ricoh, Farah Karim, Farhanuddin Shahrin, Jayshan Karunakaran

“COMFORT NOW” by the comfort now artists

Synopsis:

Comfort, in itself is innately different for all of us. We all find comfort in different things.

The idea of this project came from the feelings of isolation that we, as individuals and a community, felt during the pandemic. I pondered, why is it that I was so "uncomfortable" staying home? Why was it so "difficult" to stay put? Then it dawned upon me that perhaps these feelings of uneasiness were because we moved so recklessly in life that we often neglected ourselves. Now we were forced to stay home and confront ourselves. And we were uncomfortable because we have not built a relationship with ourselves, and therefore we were forced to sit alone with the stranger at home, our own selves.

The movement phrases that were devised and explored in this piece stemmed from the question "What does comfort mean to you?"

I Crossdress is a raw, personal exploration into the idea of crossdressing. Jit uses both his own experiences and the stories of Joshua to craft an audio-visual experience of casual drag. Their tales look beyond the common portrayals of drag in the media, into a deep connection with sexuality, identity and courage. At its core, I Crossdress is about the empowerment of the freedom of expression through art, fabric, film and music, no matter one’s sexuality. It is a celebration of identity.
