KonTra : Bianglala

Fresh from his stunning Balinese dance presentation pragina : EMOSI, The Actors Studio’s Choreographer in-Residence Zhafir Muzani now turns to Malaysia’s diverse body of traditional dances. 

KonTra : Bianglala marries the Malay word for contemporary (kontemporari) and traditional (tradisional) while Bianglala means rainbow. As the title promises, the performance will showcase a colourful array of traditional dances reimagined with contemporary touches be it using contemporary dance moves, entirely new creations or digital elements by some of Malaysia’s top choreographers. The first edition of this series will shine the spotlight on Malay traditional dance forms like Zapin, Joget, Inang and Asli. 
 
KonTra : Bianglala hopes to inject creativity and freshness to traditional arts, sparking renewed interest among the young and driving new creative works by dance artistes. By bringing together our past and future, both our traditional heritage and our future innovations can stand on equal ground. 

KonTra, merupakan hybrid antara 2 perkataan iaitu Kontemporari dan Tradisional, merupakan sebuah siri persembahan tarian Mix Bill yang terdiri daripada beberapa koreografer, menggabungkan tarian-tarian tradisional, klasik atau tarian rakyat dari komuniti-komuniti yang terdapat di Malaysia dengan elemen-elemen seperti kontemporari, kreasi baru, kreatif, digital atau sebagainya tanpa batasan. KonTra : Bianglala (bermaksud Pelangi) merupakan siri pertama yang menumpukan tarian-tarian dari masyarakat Melayu seperti Zapin, Joget, Inang dan Asli, tetapi digabungkan dengan elemen-elemen lain mengikut kreativiti masing-masing. Ini merupakan inisiatif bagi mengangkat seni budaya tradisional yang terdapat di Malaysia agar tidak berada di takuk yang lama sahaja dan dalam masa yang sama dikembangkan menjadi karya baru agar mampu menarik minat masyarakat terutamanya anak-anak muda di Malaysia disamping mengasah kreativiti penggiat seni tari di Malaysia. Apabila lambaian tradisi dan arus modenisasi seiring berkembang, barulah duduk sama rendah, berdiri sama tinggi.
