Apabila tanah-tanah milik komuniti Punan Ba di Belaga, Sarawak dilesenkan kepada syarikat balak dan Apabila tanah-tanah milik komuniti Punan Ba di Belaga, Sarawak dilesenkan kepada syarikat balak dan perladangan tanpa kebenaran komuniti, Gebril Atong dan komuniti bertindak untuk mempertahankan wilayah adat mereka. Sumber-sumber kini telah dikeluarkan daripada tanah Orang Asal tetapi Orang Asal masih tidak mendapat sebarang pampasan atau hasil. Situasi ini telah lama berlaku, adakah ini merupakan bentuk penjajahan baru?
The Punan Ba community in Belaga Sarawak defended their ancestral land against logging companies and plantations obtained licenses to conduct activities on the land. This form of practice has gone on for a long time where the local indigenous peoples did not give their consent, and were never properly compensated. Is this in fact a new form of colonialism?

Gebril Atong is an indigenous human rights defender from the Punan Ba community in Sarawak. In 2014, Gebril led his community to sue the Sarawak government and seven timber and plantation companies for violating their native customary rights.
Empangan Nenggiri: Suara Bantahan Orang Asli (2022)
Empangan Nenggiri bakal dibina di tanah dan wilayah adat Orang Asli di Gua Musang, Kelantan. Kerajaan dan pihak TNB mengeluarkan kenyataan bahawa majoriti penduduk di kampung-kampung yang terjejas bersetuju dengan empangan dan juga untuk dipindahkan ke tempat lain. Namun, suara penduduk yang membantah langsung tidak diendahkan. Dokumentari ini adalah suara Orang Asli yang membantah pembinaan empangan ini.
The Nenggiri Dam is to be built on Orang Asli customary land in Gua Musang in Kelantan State, Malaysia. The local government and also the National Electric Company (TNB) claimed that the majority of the communities had agreed to the dam construction and to be relocated. This film gives voice to the Orang Asli who oppose the construction of this dam.

Shafie Dris
Shafie Dris, an activist and filmmaker from Kampung Penderas, Kuala Krau, Pahang who is at the forefront of the Orang Asli rights movement in Malaysia. Shafie’s work mostly covers issues on human rights, land rights, right to life, cultural rights and indigenous rights. He has produced many documentaries such as Hak Dinafikan, Abai, and Tak Kesampaian all highlighting the indigenous people’s plight.
This event is part of FreedomFilmFest 2022, which is organised by Freedom Film Network (Pertubuhan Perfileman Sosial Malaysia), a non-profit society dedicated to the development and promotion of social justice and human rights films.
