About

Collectively, the exhibition explores the patterns, shapes, colours, spiritual significance, as well as rice cultivation practices that begin with or have the presence of palms in itself and its process. The interaction between the material and immaterial worlds within the Semai and Mah Meri cosmologies fosters a deep care for their lived environment, all of which is embedded in their everyday routine and rituals, and shown through their cultural expressions. As globalisation and environmental changes continue to impact these communities, Palm Practices seeks to raise awareness of the vital connection between Indigenous communities and their natural surroundings, highlighting the risks posed by deforestation and climate change.
