Ong May Yi
Malaysia Ruan musicians , Graduated from the Beijing China Conservatory of Music, majoring in the Ruan. During her time there she was under the tutelage of Associate Professor Wei Wei
In Malaysia, she became actively involved in the promoting of the Ruan instrument. She served as the Artistic Director and ZhongRuan soloist for concert. In 2011, she formed the Ruan Chamber Orchestra, going on to organise the < Four Dialogues With The Ruan > concert series.
2009, she began venturing into contemporary music, participating in first Kuala Lumpur Contemporary Music Festival as guest performer with the German chamber music orchestra outfit Ensemble Mosaik, performing the Ruan and Strings concerto, "Cursive." Since then she has performed in various contemporary musical pieces. She has also ventured into collaborations and performances with GuQin and Cello. In 2013, she won accolades serving as the Ruan performer in the musical "Green Snake and Fa Hai", while being involved in organising the "Chinese Instrumental Concert". Ruan promoter, music educator, performer, concert production.
Tee Jun Hui
Malaysia Er Hu musician ,graduated from the China Conservatory of Music with a major in performance on erhu, under the tutelage of Song Fei.
Tee is the winner at the first Yue Lang Cup, a national Chinese Music Strings Section Solo Competition.
Tee actively cultivates musical talents in his hometown, and is the instructor of Chinese High School Chinese Orchestra, Pei Chun High School Chinese Orchestra, and Batu Pahat Senior Citizen Choir. He has staged several solo recitals and has been a guest performer with the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra.
Leong Ching Chiang
Malaysia Sheng musician. He graduated from Shanghai Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Professor Xu ChaoMing and Professor WuWei. He won 2nd place in the Malaysian Chinese Music Solo Competition(Wind Instruments Category). He was accepted to study at the conservatory with a full scholarship awarded by the Shanghai government. Leong frequently performed in shows and concerts and was well received by the audiences.
In 2016, he won silver medal in the “HongFu Cup” Chinese Sheng Culture International Festival and performed his solo recital “Blowing Winds” at the academia hall, Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He remained active in arranging music in recent years, participated the SMCC SoundBridge Contemporary Music Ensemble as a young composer, and composed a contemporary piece for the ensemble during the 2017 SoundBridge Contemporary Music Festival.
Cloud Teo
Malaysia Guzheng musician. He received his Master's degree from the China Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of renowned artist and educator Professor Lin Ling. He was a silver medalist for the CCTV Traditional Instruments Competition (Overseas Category). Teo is dedicated to the promoting of Guzheng music in Malaysia. In 2015, he joined the SMCC SoundBridge Contemporary Music Ensemble, which he performed in at the 2015 and 2017 SoundBridge Contemporary Music Festival.
Ooi Wei Chern
Ooi Wei Chern began to learn piano at a very young age, under the tutelage of Patricia HC Lim. Apart from his interest in Piano, he also had the chance to learn the dizi, erhu and pipa from Chow Chee Fatt in his primary school days. Ooi started to learn the yangqin under the tutelage of Teh Beng Huat. In 2008, Professor Huang Xiaofei and Yang Shi Chang instructed him in conducting, while Professor Li Ling Ling the Yangqin.
The China Conservatory of Music accepted him as a yangqin performance undergraduate student in 2010, under the tutelage of Wu Huang Huang. During his time at the Conservatory, Ooi actively participated in various orchestras, ensembles, and performances in China, both in and outside of Beijing. He also managed to pick up composing through his own studies and has arranged and composed in addition to his studies in yangqin. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the Conservatory in 2014.
Dr. Chong Kee Yong
Dr. Chong Kee Yong, one of Malaysia’s leading contemporary music composers, possesses one of the most exciting voices in new music today. Indeed, his work has been hailed as “imaginative and poetic” by leading conductor-composer Peter Eötvös, and as “very inventive and artistically pure” by composer Jonathan Harvey.
Dr. Chong's distinctive style has won him many awards and commissions; His list of prizes is remarkable, as Prix Marcel Hastir, 2nd Seoul International Competition, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra International Composers' Award, Lutoslawski Award, BMW Award of Isang Yun Music Prize, the commission grant award by the Serge Koussevitzky Music Foundation, "The Outstanding Young Malaysian Award" and many other.
He has been awarded the composer-in-residency with Akademie der Künste (Germany), Herrenhaus Edenkoben (Germany), Asian Cultural Council (USA), the Center Henri Pousseur (Belgium), SWR EXPERIMENTALSTUDIO (Germany), Civitella Ranieri Foundation Fellowship 2014 (USA/Italy), Korea National Gugak Center fellowship, IGNM-VS / Forum Wallis in Leuk Switzerland, spring workshop Hong Kong and CulturalSumit Abu Dhabi 2018.
Dr. Chong is the creative director of Studio C, president of Society of Malaysian Contemporary Composers (2017-2019) and was the artistic director of the 2009 Kuala Lumpur Contemporary Music Festival and SMCC Contemporary Music Festival “SoundBridge” 2013, 2015 and 2017. 2016-2017 he was visiting professor of Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
