About
Taking place at The Habitat Penang Hill’s Curtis Crest, “The Senses” is a one-of-a-kind concert offering an all-round sensorial experience in Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve’s 130-million-years-old rainforest. Prepare to be mesmerised by Alena Murang, FAZZ, and Jumero while savouring the serenity of an ancient rainforest under the cover of the stars. Best of all, you can embrace the 360-degree panoramic views of Penang Island and watch the city's lights sparkle in the dusk like ground-level fireworks from the highest viewing point of Penang, which is the Curtis Crest! It’s magical, it’s breathtaking, it’s going to be amazing!
Alena Murang
Alena Murang is an award-winning artist from Sarawak who delves into Sarawakian culture throughout her work; playing the sape, singing in the endangered Kenyah and Kelabit languages and dances the hornbill dance. She writes songs, performs, teaches and paints, making her a multi-disciplinary artist. She aims to improve and deepen people’s understanding of Dayak culture as well as to encourage others to learn about their own heritage and to showcase ‘traditional music’ as contemporary and relevant. Alena Murang and the band have recently released a new album “Sky Songs”. She will be joined by Penangite Sara Heng on guzheng, Simmy Lor on keyboard and tin whistle, Joshua Maran on drums and guitar, and Fook on bass guitar.
FAZZ
Formed in 2011, FAZZ consists of members Yonlynn (vocal), RFB (bass), Grace (keyboard/piano), Aabid (saxophone/clarinet) and Ayam (drums). Despite being frequently identified as a jazz band, FAZZ focuses on the delivery of swing with other influences, such as electronic, pop, and rock. Showmanship and storytelling has also been FAZZ’s signature style on stage, for the band is heavily influenced by a theatrical narrative. FAZZ also had touring experiences locally and abroad, covering cities such as Seoul, Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo, Singapore, and more.
Jumero
Malaysian band Jumero – consisting of brothers Jared (vocalist and guitarist) and Michael Lim (bassist and backup vocalist) – has been making music and jamming together for almost ten years. Jumero won The Star R.Age Open Mic competition in 2012 and since then has performed at several music festivals in Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, and China. The band recently wrote and performed two songs on the soundtrack of “Measure of Revenge”, an American thriller movie.
