Book NowAbout
The story begins with King Merong Mahawangsa, originally a deity with supernatural powers. At the behest of his friend, the Emperor of Rome, Merong is tasked with leading the proposal for his son to marry the Princess of the Chinese Emperor. Geroda is unhappy with this union of two continents and seeks to thwart the marriage. Challenged by the words of King Solomon, Geroda proves that his actions surpass the records of fate. Geroda attacks the entourage, destroying their ships and casting the Roman Prince into the ocean. Geroda kidnaps the Chinese Princess and takes her to Langkapuri Island. The Roman Prince washes up on Langkapuri Island and meets the Chinese Princess. King Merong Mahawangsa vows to search for the Roman Prince. Upon landing in Langkasuka, he encounters a giant army that submits to his rule. The Roman Prince is cared for by the Chinese Princess, but Geroda eventually learns of this. Geroda intends to kill the Roman Prince, but Merong Mahawangsa and his army arrive. A fierce battle ensues, ending with Geroda's defeat. Geroda retreats far into the sea of Kalzum. Eventually, the Roman Prince and the Chinese Princess meet. In the land of Langkasuka that he has opened, Merong Mahawangsa hands over the rule to his son and declares Langkasuka as Kedah Zamin Turan.
Significance of the Musical Theatre Performance of Sakti Merong Mahawangsa : Sebuah Rekonstruksi Pemula Hikayat in Celebration of ASWARA's Pearl Jubilee 30th Anniversary
Teater Muzikal Sakti Merong Mahawangsa (TMSMM) is a musical theatre production staged to celebrate the Pearl Jubilee marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the National Academy of Arts, Culture, and Heritage (ASWARA). This tale is highlighted as it is a unique masterpiece containing the narrative of the adventures of Merong Mahawangsa, which led to the founding of the state of Kedah Zamin Turan, now known as the state of Kedah. The character of Merong Mahawangsa, known for being trustworthy, resilient, and loyal, symbolizes the spirit embodied by ASWARA since its inception in 1994, when it was known as the National Arts Academy (ASK). The challenges and trials faced by Merong Mahawangsa, which he overcame with determination and great perseverance, reflect ASWARA’s journey in navigating the currents of advocating for the traditions of art, culture, and national heritage. Just as Merong Mahawangsa played a crucial role in pioneering the founding of this nation, ASWARA stands out as the only higher education institution proactively leading and pioneering the field of arts education in Malaysia, producing graduates in various artistic disciplines.
ASWARA and the ASWARA Alumni Association hope that this performance will showcase the talents and credibility of the alumni, ensure the sustainability of arts, culture, and heritage, invigorate artistic activities among the members of this institution, and build appreciation for arts and culture within the local arts community.

LATAR BELAKANG PERSATUAN ALUMNI ASWARA
The ASWARA Alumni Association
The year 1994 marks a historic moment for the National Academy of Arts (ASK), as a group of students from various backgrounds stepped onto the campus for the first time on Jalan Ampang. After being declared a statutory body and renamed the National Academy of Cultural and Heritage (ASWARA) in 2008, the Student Affairs Division of ASWARA gathered some of its alumni and held a meeting aimed at establishing a founding committee responsible for planning and drafting the constitution and registering the ASWARA Alumni Association as an official organization. This was successfully accomplished when the registration of the ASWARA Alumni Association was officially approved by the Registrar of Societies Malaysia on December 1, 2009, and it began operating officially in 2012. The association has collaborated extensively with both government and private bodies and has staged several cultural performances that includes both performing and visual arts. across the country. To date, the association has over 300 registered members, many of whom have made a name for themselves in the national arts scene.
