Perhiasan Kaca

Following The Actors Studio Foundation’s sold out season opener, Christopher Ling (Best Director, BOH Cameronian Arts Awards 2012 & 2023) is set to direct “Perhiasan Kaca”, a Bahasa Malaysia translation of Tennessee Williams’ “The Glass Menagerie” by Marlenny Deenerwan.

It was the very play that catapulted Williams to fame and went on to win Best American Play (New York Drama Critics’ Circle Awards).

This semi-autobiographical masterpiece centres on a family of three – a mother who lives in the past, a shy daughter fixated on her glass animals and a son who dreams of becoming a poet. Though desperate for a better future, each escapes into their own personal “glass menagerie” to elude their own pain. Will they be able to break free?

Berikutan pembukaan teater yang laris habis untuk 'Musim Kembali Ke Pangkuan' pada bulan lepas, The Actors Studio Foundation akan mempersembahkan "Perhiasan Kaca", adaptasi Bahasa Malaysia karya klasik The Glass Menagerie oleh Tennessee Williams, terjemahan Marlenny Deenerwan dan arahan Christopher Ling (Pengarah Terbaik, BOH Cameronian Arts Awards 2012 & 2023).

The Glass Menagerie merupakan salah satu karya ulung Tennessee Williams dan seterusnya memenangi Drama Amerika Terbaik (Anugerah Pengkritik Drama New York) pada tahun 1945.

Karya berbentuk semi-autobiografi ini berpusatkan keluarga tiga beranak: seorang ibu yang hidup dalam bayang-bayang masa lalu, anak perempuan pemalu yang terpaku pada hiasan haiwan kaca dan anak lelaki yang bercita-cita menjadi seorang penyair. Dalam kesempitan hidup, "perhiasan kaca" masing-masing membuka ruang untuk mereka melarikan diri daripada kepahitan realiti. Mampukah mereka membebaskan diri?

Kembali Ke Pangkuan Season Overview
Established in 2021, The Actors Studio Foundation is excited to present its maiden season entitled Kembali Ke Pangkuan, curated and helmed by The Actors Studio’s new Associate Artistic Director Christopher Ling in honour of his 35-year relationship with The Actors Studio and its Co-Founders, Joe & Faridah.
 
Kembali Ke Pangkuan opens with the season teaser, Saccharine, followed by the season highlight Perhiasan Kaca, a Malay adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ beloved classic The Glass Menagerie. It closes with the experimental Trilogi Bulan featuring 3 specially-commissioned BM plays by Yusof Bakar.

Musim Kembali Ke Pangkuan
Ditubuhkan pada tahun 2021, The Actors Studio Foundation dengan gembiranya mempersembahkan musim sulungnya yang bertajuk Kembali Ke Pangkuan, dikurasi dan diarahkan oleh Pengarah Artistik Bersekutu baru The Actors Studio, Christopher Ling, untuk menghormati hubungan 35 tahunnya dengan The Actors Studio dan Pengasas Bersama, Joe & Faridah.

Kembali Ke Pangkuan dibuka dengan teaser musim, Saccharine, diikuti dengan persembahan Perhiasan Kaca, adaptasi Bahasa Malaysia karya klasik The Glass Menagerie oleh Tennessee Williams. Musim ini bakal ditutup dengan Trilogi Bulan, menampilkan 3 karya pentas experimental Bahasa Malaysia ditulis oleh Yusof Bakar.

As a pioneer in the performing arts industry in Malaysia with more than three decades worth of experience, The Actors Studio has created a large body of creative work, produced countless talents, and brought much positive change as well as advancement to the industry since its inception.

To ensure the continuity of its good work as well as to secure the legacy of The Actors Studio, The Actors Studio Foundation was established on 16 December 2021 to carry on its Co-Founder’s vision in the long-term.

The Foundation’s objectives are very much in keeping with the initial mission of The Actors Studio. This includes providing safe creative spaces for artistic activities, be it live performances, arts programmes or arts training, to thrive and flourish. The Foundation also seeks to ensure the sustainability of the industry by nurturing new talent through training and education. This also includes financially supporting students who could otherwise not afford it in their performing arts education through the provision of scholarship and bursaries. It will continue to present and produce quality Malaysian works with a strong local voice in various genres for the public and work towards bringing the magic of the arts to the underprivileged.
