About
My Ugly Duckling is a captivating children’s play about a young girl who finds meaning and acceptance through an unlikely friendship. Yaya loves reading and drawing. Her favourite book is “The Ugly Duckling.” Her happiest moments are spent sketching and colouring. Unfortunately, her mother does not seem to like her drawings. Yaya feels defeated, convinced that she can do nothing right. But one day, Yaya meets an awkward yet endearing ugly duck, and their companionship becomes a source of healing for her wounded heart as they embark on a whimsical journey together. Inspired by the much-loved fairytale, ‘The Ugly Duckling’, My Ugly Duckling is a compelling exploration of love, acceptance, and forgiveness, transforming struggles and challenges into hope.
About Noise Performance House (NOISE)
NOISE was founded on July 21, 2000, under the leadership of its founder, Jason Ong. From 2014 to 2017, Chin Teo took over as the leader of NOISE. Currently, NOISE is led by its fourth leader, Mandy Wong and has 135 members.
NOISE greatly emphasises the education and growth of children and young people. For eight years running, NOISE has organised the “Penang Children's Theatre Holiday Camp”, held annually during the March school holidays. In August 2019, NOISE and the Razor Experimental Theatre jointly organised the “National DIY Youth Theatre Competition”. With a new format and rules, NOISE has restarted the theatre competition following a two-year suspension.
Regarding performances, NOISE premiered its children’s musical “Duo Duo the Little Monster” in 2011, touring more than ten cities in Malaysia. In 2012, the musical was invited to perform at various primary schools in Macau. To continue the success of "Duo Duo the Little Monster," NOISE produced "Duo Duo 2 The Little Flower" and "Duo Duo 3 Be Like Edelweiss" in 2015 and 2017, respectively. These productions were well-received by the audience and received multiple nominations and awards from the theatre industry.
In 2022, Noise was granted the PIP Cultural Industries authorisation from Hong Kong to bring the classic children's play "Oops! Belle the Witch is Gone!" to Penang and was nominated for multiple awards at the 18th ADA Drama Award.
