Journal of Her House 女居

Three Penang local theatre companies. One immersive journey to uncover lesser-known history. 

Neighborhood Performance Group, Nineties Production and Noise Performance House come together to collaborate in-depth for the very first time, creating a unique site-specific experience. Directed and co-produced by Ong Han Loon, Journal of Her House is a George Town Festival co-production taking place in Journal Georgetown.

Underneath Journal Georgetown’s visage lies a rich history. The space was once the house of a Majie, women who migrated from China to work as domestic servants. They fashioned their hair like married women through certain rituals, displaying their commitment to not marry. 

This theatrical collaboration transforms Journal’s heritage building into an immersive historic storytelling experience. Audiences navigate through maze-like spaces, experiencing the challenges and dilemmas of Majie.

三个槟城在地剧团首次携手合作，由乔治市艺术节联合制作，王涵伦担任总导演与制作，并由路人甲表演社、90制作团队及Noise Performance House联合呈现。《女居》将在Journal Georgetown进行演出，为观众打造一场独特的环境剧场体验。

集咖啡館、酒店、共享工作空間，以及活動場地于一体的多元用途空間Journal Georgetown 隐藏着一段迷人而丰富的历史事迹，其前身为“妈姐”的栖居空间。《女居》将透过一场沉浸之旅，为观众掀开一段被时光尘埃所掩埋的老故事。

“妈姐”19世纪末20世纪初，从中国远赴南洋，来到马来西亚为大户人家工作的家庭女佣，这些女子通过自梳仪式将头发梳成已婚妇女的特定发髻，借此宣告终生不婚嫁的承诺。

在这部环境剧场演出中，创作者把Journal Georgetown的传统建筑空间改转换成演出空间，打造沉浸式历史叙事体验。观众踏入迷宫般的旧建筑里，在里头来回穿梭，感受着那些曾经发生在妈姐们身上的生活挑战和困境。

• Age Limit: This performance is for audiences aged 13 and above.
• Latecomer Policy: Due to the nature of the performance, latecomers will not be admitted.
• Language: Performed in Mandarin and local dialects (Hokkien and Cantonese).
• Other: The performance will be adapted to the unique structure and layout of the venue, incorporating its stairs and steps. Kindly note that due to the nature of the performance, audience members will not be provided with seating.

Artist Bio 

Ong Han Loon 王涵伦

Ong Han Loon is a drama instructor at Chung Ling High School. He possesses a broad range of experience in the performing arts, including roles as a director, playwright, actor and vocal coach. Additionally, he has worked as a music director, composer, lyricist and singer for various music performance events. Currently, he is a contracted music writer for an international copyright company. His works have been featured in albums by singers from Malaysia, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

王涵伦是钟灵中学的戏剧指导老师。他在表演艺术领域涉猎广泛，包括导演、编剧、演员和声乐教练等多重角色。此外，他还曾担任音乐总监、作曲作词和歌手，参与歌曲创作演出活动。目前是一间国际版权公司的合约音乐创作人。他的作品曾收录在马来西亚、中国、台湾和香港歌手的专辑中。

Neighborhood Performance Group 路人甲表演社

Founded in 2010, Neighborhood Performance Group is committed to expressing humanistic concerns through the art of theatre, driven by the belief that theatre education has the power to shape the minds and hearts of young talents. Dedicated to fostering an inclusive space, the group brings together individuals from different backgrounds and perspectives.

成立于2010年，透过表演艺术表达人文的终极关怀，积极倡导表演艺术教育以启发新生代。我们提供多元体念的创作平台，鼓励来自不同背景和观点的人共同参与，建立对多元、平等、包容和理解及尊重的基础。致力于带动社会观赏戏剧的风潮，促进文化交流和艺术活动的发展，让表演艺术丰富生活，建立更强大的社区。

Nineties Production 90制作团队

Established in 2018 by a group of drama enthusiasts born in the 1990s, Nineties Production is dedicated to fostering a vibrant theatre community. In recent years, the group has organised drama camps to offer opportunities for drama enthusiasts to come together, interact and share their experiences. These camps provide a ripe platform for meaningful exchange and collaboration.

成立于2018年，由一群热爱戏剧的90后青年所组成。目的是为了培养一个充满活力的戏剧社群。近年来，该团体举办了中小学生戏剧生活营，为戏剧爱好者提供交流平台和经验分享。此外，该团体也曾参与公开演出如：《我们的姓氏桥》、《吉米倪》、《日暮食堂》、《爸爸陪我的日子》等。

Noise Performance House

Founded in 2000, Noise places a great emphasis on the education and growth of children and young people. In 2022, the troupe was granted PIP Cultural Industries authorisation from Hong Kong to bring classic children’s play Opps! Belle the Witch is Gone! to Penang, and was nominated for multiple awards at the 18th ADA Drama Awards.

成立于2000年。一路来秉持着灌输戏剧爱好给更多年轻的朋友，Noise主办了多届的学员培训课程及全国DIY青年戏剧比赛。2022年，NOISE获得了来自香港的PIP文化产业授权，将经典儿童剧《不好啦！巫婆靓靓不见啦！》带到槟城，并在第18届ADA戏剧奖上获得多项提名，并获得了《年度最佳舞台设计》及 《年度最佳灯光设计》 。
