About
The "Gold Stars Reaching for the Stars" concert invites us to soar to new heights, inspired by the timeless wisdom of Tahir Shah: "To succeed, you must reach for the stars, and let your imagination find its own path." This profound message resonates deeply as we embark on a musical journey filled with aspirations and ambitions. It urges us to aim high, to pursue excellence with unwavering determination, and to set our sights on the boundless possibilities that await us.
In this concert, we celebrate the relentless pursuit of greatness—the undying passion and unwavering commitment that drive us to outperform ourselves and surpass our own expectations. It is a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit, reminding us that mediocrity is not our destiny, but rather a mere obstacle to overcome on our path to greatness. Each of us is born with unique talents and abilities, and it is our responsibility to cultivate them and let them shine brightly.
The performers featured in this concert are the First Prize Winners from the Gold Star International Music Competition Grand Finals 2024, representing the pinnacle of achievement in their respective categories. Accompanied by the illustrious klpac Orchestra, these talented musicians showcase the culmination of years of dedication and hard work. Their journey serves as an inspiration to us all, reminding us that success is not achieved overnight, but through perseverance, resilience, and an unwavering belief in ourselves.
Musicians are often regarded as artists—individuals with unique personalities, a craving for freedom and self-expression, and a hint of rebelliousness running through their blood. However, in concerto performances, you witness the beauty of more than 60 talented, top-notch musicians working harmoniously together to create magical music and moments. If this is not a representation of the highest level of collaboration and co-creation, what else is? In these concerto performances, egos are set aside, and the focus shifts to the creation of artistry and connection above all else.
As we bask in the brilliance of their performances, let us be reminded of the power of dreams and the importance of reaching for the stars. For it is only by daring to dream big and daring to pursue our passions with all our hearts that we can truly achieve greatness. So let us set our sights high, strive for success, and never lose sight of the stars that guide us on our journey.

ABOUT The klpac Orchestra
The notion of a community orchestra is very much in keeping with the vision of The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac), which is to foster creative excellence and develop and nurture performing arts culture in Malaysia.
Driven by the obvious need for a community orchestra to cater for the growing numbers of classically trained music students and musicians, the first auditions were held in October 2006. The klpac Orchestra’s debut concert in December 2006 was “Candlelight Christmas”, conducted by the Orchestra’s founder and klpac’s first Music Director & Resident Conductor, the late Mr. Brian Tan.
In setting up the orchestra, klpac hopes to provide enriching and engaging musical experiences for people with varying musical backgrounds, in an environment that promotes fellowship and respect. The founding of The klpac Orchestra provides more opportunities for aspiring musicians, amateur or professional, while helping to promote orchestral music.
Since then, hundreds of musicians have been a part of The klpac Orchestra and its many concerts throughout the years. After the passing of Mr. Brian Tan, Dr. Takahisa took over the baton in 2012.
In 2015, Lee Kok Leong assumed the position of the orchestra’s Music Director and Resident Conductor and has since been carrying on the late Mr. Brian Tan’s legacy and dream.
Resident Music Directors:
Mr. Brian Tan (2006 – 2011)
Dr. Takahisa Ota (2012-2014)
Mr. Lee Kok Leong (2015 – Present)
