Czech Impressions with the klpac Orchestra

Under the helm of its Music Director and Resident Conductor, Lee Kok Leong, the klpac Orchestra launches into its 2023 season with the dreamy “Czech Impressions”, featuring music from Czech Romantic composers Antonín Dvořák and Bedřich Smetana.
 
The orchestra is set to perform two of Dvořák’s most memorable works – Kolo from Slavonic Dances Op. 72 and Cello Concerto in B Minor featuring cello soloist Eric Yip. It was the Slavonic Dances that launched this then unknown composer into international stardom while the cello concerto, his last solo concerto work, became one of the most famous pieces in the cello canon.
 
“Czech Impressions” also shines the spotlight on the father figure of Czech music, Bedřich Smetana, who was responsible for the internationally-acclaimed comic opera The Bartered Bride. The orchestra will perform the Overture as well as three dances – Polka, Furiant and Skočná (Dance of the Comedians) from the opera as well as another piece from his symphonic poems called Vltava (The Moldau), a moving tribute to Bohemia and its countryside landscape.
