About
The award-winning klpac Symphonic Band wraps up its 2023 season with the heart-warming “Childhood Revisited” under the baton of Cheryl Mah.
After its jam-packed Music Play Date outdoor concert and Let’s Rock 3 earlier this year, the band brings you another fun offering with a dash of nostalgia. What’s your family ritual? Friday nights huddled around the TV or weekends at the cinema? In conjunction with Children’s Day on 20 November, celebrate your inner child and relive your childhood and teenager years with a string of familiar tunes.
“Childhood Revisited” features music from local favourites like “Upin & Ipin” to international fare with songs from “Pokemon”, “Super Mario Bros” and “Angry Birds”. A highlight will be a medley of songs from hit TV series like “The Simpsons”, “The Nanny”, “The X-Files”, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and “Friends” specially-arranged by Yeo Chow Shern.
The band is proud to premiere a new commissioned piece by Lim Yu-Yao entitled “Buaian Kenangan”, a lovely depiction of growing up in Malaysia, as part of its continued efforts to showcase Malaysian composers.
Licensed by MACP.

About The klpac Symphonic Band
Soon after The klpac Orchestra was formed, The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac) established The klpac Symphonic Band in 2009 which made its debut with “Friendship in Concert”.
Like the other music ensembles under klpac, The klpac Symphonic Band is a community-oriented initiative aimed at providing a platform for brass, wind and percussion players to hone their skills and perform regularly. It was established to fill a gap in the local music scene where many band musicians who started playing during their schooling years were left with no avenue to grow and pursue their interest after leaving school. Its members are musicians and music lovers from different backgrounds and age groups who are admitted based on an audition.
The klpac Symphonic Band has been under the leadership of its Music Director and Resident Conductor Cheryl Mah since 2011. The band’s “Ultimate Music Crawl” concert bagged the “BEST OF 2019” Award at the 17th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards 2020.
Apart from its sold out “Back to the Classics” concert, the band initiated an all-important Outreach Collaborative Project in 2022 with fellow music educators and over 50 musicians, some from out-of-state, which culminated in a concert entitled “An Uncommon Journey”. On the audience development front, the band also debuted its “Music Play Date” which was an interactive, family-friendly concert held outdoors.
