JOIE KOO-摄影讲座

A Penang-born photographer specialised in conceptual photography, the X-Photographer (brand ambassador) of Fujifilm Malaysia since 2017 and the Brand Collaborator/Influencer of Profoto of Sweden since 2022, Joie is an active and creative visual creator who started producing his world of imagination since his teen age. 

Being simply but deeply into exploring the possibilities of getting the best angles in human portraiture, photography allows him to speak his mind with pictures effectively. He, however, did not make that passion a career until his early 30s where he finally embarked the journey as a freelance wedding photography and then into the fashion world.

His uncontainable desire for conceptual expressions is one of the reasons he founded Allspire Photography in 2009 where he transformed ideas and stories into still shots and made him one of the major fashion photographers in Malaysia. His covers for BACKSTAGE PROFESSIONAL, probably the best example, have portrayed trends and messages stylishly on numerous local and international top models & celebrities including Amber Chia, Chris Tong Bing Yu, Cheryl Lee Xin Yi, Yeo Yann Yann and many more.

His training in contemporary dance, ballet, and stage lighting design prior to his photography career has allowed him to consolidate multiple skills and experiences to create awe-inspiring dance portraits, bringing image projection to a whole new level. His outstanding performance in photography is the reason for the appointment as the official photographer for Beijing International Dance Festival in 2016 and the lead photographer of George Town Festival between 2011 – 2018. 

With his profound feelings for performing arts and creativity, he integrates emotions and movements and freezes them amazingly. He has seized countless split seconds and transformed them into breath-taking moments for internationally renowned dance performances by Akram Khan, Sidi Larbi, Shaun Parker, Riki Von Valken, Yuko Kawamoto and Aida Redza.

To this day, Joie has had solo photography exhibitions including IMAGINARIUM, LAUGHING PENANG (the collection of Ministry of Tourism Malaysia), STILL. MOTION. ENGAGE (funded by CENDANA), and CULTURAL DIPLOMACY (funded by Ministry of Tourism Malaysia).

Joie is driven to pursue his artistic visions and will continue shuttling between the world of reality and fantasyto create the immersive experience for audience to value arts. Besides embracing his wildest dream in creativeworld, he is also commercially engaged in fashion, stage performance, advertising & corporate, and architecture& interior design photography.
