About

At the heart of Southeast Asia’s rhythmic pulse, cultures collide and moving bodies intertwine.

MyDance Alliance’s Southeast Asian Choreolab beckons 15 contemporary dance choreographers from Southeast Asia, selected from an open call held in March-April 2024, to take part in a laboratory at Hin Bus Depot to enrich their choreographic craft.

Besides learning from and connecting with each other, they will learn from renowned Taiwanese choreographer Ho Hsiao-Mei, who serves as the choreolab’s facilitator. With excursions to vibrant arts venues and performances in George Town, participants dive deep into the local artistic community, developing an understanding of the regional arts scene and forging links for future collaborations.

Two weeks of intense choreographic exploration culminate in two open studio showings, where audiences will be treated to an electrifying dance showcase by participants. Audiences will also enjoy a candid peek behind the curtain, as participants share their creative process and artistic development.

Southeast Asian Choreolab is supported by Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, The Actors Studio Foundation and Rimbun Dahan.
