Wong Zhi Duan, also known as Leonard, is a young aspiring lyric tenor from Sabah, Malaysia, recognized for his versatility in opera, choral singing, and vocal performance. He graduated from the Malaysian Institute of Art, majoring in Classical Vocal under Malaysian tenor Mr. Solomon Chong Kim Lung.
Leonard has performed in prestigious operas, including La Traviata (MOV Asia), Carmen (Kuala Lumpur City Opera), and Solace of Papan, where he debuted as Chen Yen with ProMuzika PLT in 2024. That same year, he played ‘Page’ in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors with Fiamma Opera Studio.
Beyond opera, Leonard has sung with the Young Choral Academy Chorus at The 1st International Choral Festival in Korea and the Malaysian Voices Collective at Best of Anime 2.0. He has performed at renowned venues such as Seoul Arts Centre and Dewan Filharmonik Petronas. In 2023, he recorded demo songs for the United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong) Music Textbook.
His achievements include a Second Class Award in The 12th International Vocal Open Competition (China) Preliminary (2025), Top 8 in Gold Star International Music Competition Grand Finals (2024), and 2nd Runner-Up in World Voice and Choral Competition Grand Prix (2023).
Currently, Leonard is a Choir Instructor & Conductor at Ampang Chinese Methodist Church and an Event Admin at Young Choral Academy. With a strong foundation in classical and choral music, he strives to make a lasting impact on Malaysia’s opera and choral scene.
