DEWAN BUDAYA is an arts and cultural hub situated in the main campus of Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang. DEWAN BUDAYA which is also referred to as Cultural Centre is one of the prominent avenue on Penang Island that promotes arts and cultural activities and work hand in hand with the School of the Arts in USM. Besides being a venue provider, DEWAN BUDAYA aims to provide platforms for university students and staff to showcase their talents, skills and creativity in performing arts.
DEWAN BUDAYA was established to develop arts and cultural heritage activities within the university to cater to the students and staff of USM. In other words, not only does it mainly organize cultural programs but it also functions to educate young generations and to nurture new talent particularly through live performing arts, event management and stage productions. Today, DEWAN BUDAYA is well known for its varied programs in all genres of arts and cultural form and has collaborated with countless local and international agencies in these recent years making DEWAN BUDAYA one of the most outstanding outlets of arts and cultural hub in Northern region.
Besides offering modern and traditional music live performances, theatre and dance, DEWAN BUDAYA also provides facilities such as a studio for music recording, a wall-mounted mirror dance studio, a jamming studio, an open space area at the building compound (Dataran Bintang) as well as an auditorium with seating capacities of 493 that fits perfectly for events such as concerts, theatres, conferences and public talks which is also available for public usage.
