Straddle #2025 - Holding space for dance works from KL and Montreal
About STRADDLE
A new platform by Five Arts Centre aimed at nurturing connections between artists in Kuala Lumpur and other cities. Cities chosen at strolling pace, from journeys made by members of Five Arts Centre. Journeys often unplanned, brought on by invitations (often unexpected also) for us to participate in events out of KL. “Straddle” is our idea of having one leg in KL, and the other in another city, and for us to build connections with curiosity, and with care.
Our intention for these connections is to enable us in KL to be present in the sharing of thoughts and expressions that are engaging artists from other cities/other spaces. And, for visiting artists to travel to KL and to soak in a bit in what our artists are occupied with. These exchanges can be in the form of performances, lecture performances, artist talks, improvisation sessions and moderated discussions.

The work performed and discussed this week centres and expands on identities - cultivated, inherited, invisible, and the attempts to address and redress them.
Artists from Montreal include: Dana Michel, Kim-Sanh Châu, Louise Michel Jackson.
Artists from KL include: January Low, Lee Ren Xin.
